Although the steady DVD plot isn’t out as of the time I write this, the 4th season finished airing months ago and now since they have the page for pre-order up, I’ve been kinda itching to write a review.

Well as this season starts off from the 3rd season cliffhanger, it is definately off to an awesome commence. Atlantis lost, adrift in place and running out of power. To conserve energy, they shrink the shield down to a slight portion of the city and then what happens? …Atlantis runs into an asteroid belt! Then to procure more power, they actually raid the Asuran homeworld for ZPM’s using Dr. Weir! A very attractive beginning.

While the majority of episodes are hits, such as the episode where a disease causes everyone to lose their memories(Tabula Rasa) or the one where Teal’c comes for a visit(Midway) ; there are some that tumble short of their potential for giving more or are fair tiring, tedious! For example: the end-season cliffhanger! This is the first time I’ve ever been disappointed with an Atlantis cliffhanger, not leaving me anxiously racy to notice how they derive out of that plot, waiting for the next season. It ends with Sheppard and his team searching a building for Teyla, but it self-destructs and collapses in on them. (Zzzzzz…you know they survive it) A better intention to extinguish the season would have been to leave Sheppard stranded 48,000 years in the future, revealing more about what happened in the galaxy in all that time and trying to figure out a method to obtain help home with the McKay hologram’s modern opinion failing to work! Now that sounds like one hell of a cliffhanger!

I reviewed season 3 as well, saying it gives potential for an awesome season 4. Does it live up to that potential? It comes finish, but unfortunately no it doesn’t. Why? It unbiased seems like the shows creators/writers aren’t willing to go all the scheme in some of the episode’s stories. For that matter, I can’t figure out what direction the present is headed in anymore; can you? (I steal the point to IS going in some direction)

At least this time around they gave more attention to the Wraith and to Teyla. The whole narrative arc with the Athosian people being kidnapped and Teyla’s search for them, both expanded, and renewed some interest, in her character. In my season 3 review I also stated my accepted character is McKay, but even I am starting to glean tired of seeing him so distinguished in every episode.

Dr. Weir was officially lost this season, then killed, then…kinda came encourage? But fortunately we regained some musty faces. Dr. Beckett (or at least a clone) came serve at an demolish of the season episode. And while I liked having Samantha Carter as the Atlantis commander, objective like Dr. Weir in season 3, they didn’t spend her character enough!

Which leads us to season 5. SPOILERS AHEAD! I’ve read various sources about what season 5 of Atlantis will have instore for us fans & veiwers, and most have been confirmed. The biggy for me being that Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) will NOT be encourage as Atlantis’ commander. (Due to the fact she’ll be staring in her gain reveal, “Sanctuary”.) But she will arrive support for some guest appearances. Who’s replacing her? Richard Woolsey (Robert Picardo)! I have completely mixed feelings about his character, but he definately doesn’t have what it takes to issue Atlantis! So unless he grows a pair and proves himself as something other than a cowering beaurocrat, this alone makes me perilous about season 5 as well as the future of the demonstrate. Dr. Beckett and Dr. Daniel Jackson will guest star in some episodes, as well as 2 novel characters and an entirely original accelerate being introduced.

Don’t regain me ghastly, I collected really like Atlantis and am going to gain the season 4 DVD once it’s released, but I must say this is the first time I am unsafe about how the next season will choose shape, or if it will even be any righteous? Let’s impartial hope season 5 will reveal me despicable!

The season 4 DVD area itself will have the usual: commentaries, deleted scenes, etc. However, this will be the first Atlantis season DVD that will have a bloopers reel.

**UPDATE: Well, Season 4 came out today, I’ve got it and am watching it fair now. Physical DVD-wise, the video and sound is unexcited ample like seasons 2 & 3. Packaging is the same as well. The menus are different from seasons 2 & 3 DVD’s, but are collected cool-looking and are easy to navigate. (You don’t have to go through a lot of submenus to come by what you are looking for.) Hope this latest info helps anyone!

Surprisingly, season 4 of Stargate Atlantis is better than season 3–it is honest about on par with season 2. Most of the storylines are decent, with some very delicious ones; even with the mostly annoying characters, this season is tolerable.

Lt. Col. John Sheppard has deviated from his Jack O’Neill Jr. behavior, now becoming a standard yet spineless character; when faced with most women, he’s smooth and weak-willed, barely standing up for himself–unlike his decisive attitude around men. Col. Samantha Carter, taking the status of Dr. Weir, is a favorable and strong leader–at times, she is the only one to teach up for the just course of action. Dr. Rodney McKay, barely changing in the slightest, remains arrogant and smug; however, Carter can sometimes shut him up with a well-placed comment, which is quite satisfying. Teyla, although the victim of a sometimes pathetic space twist, is very faintly better than she was in season 3, sometimes offering up Athosian wisdom for those in need. Ronon is, in my concept, the best character in the show: he is on occasion the only person with approved sense, and also tells it exactly like it is.

As for the episodes:

Adrift–5 of 10–We choose up where we left off in season 3, with the city floating in situation and losing power. The whole of this episode is spent on creating and solving jam upon problem: an asteroid belt threatens the city, as well as badly damaged power conduits and loss of shield protection. This goes on until it ends in a very unsatisfactory manner. I couldn’t back but judge that a better solution could have been found to the main, crippling scrape of this episode.

Lifeline–7 of 10–Even with the awful ending of `Adrift’, this episode finishes things up very nicely, with a intrepid mission and mettlesome back from the wounded Dr. Weir. Rodney of course discovers something else that they could try to do while going through with their new mission; I expected things to go from abominable to worse and their plans to fail, but thankfully everything went well, with the city actually surviving somewhat unscathed. This is a friendly ending to a poor dilemma.

Reunion–8 of 10–Ronon stumbles upon three of his friends from Sateda (his home planet) and wonders whether he should leave Atlantis to discontinue with them. The Satedans are actually slightly dislikeable, being somewhat boorish and rough around the edges; they influence Ronon far too noteworthy at times, but they have an unpredictable secret that almost dooms Ronon. As with mostly all episodes focusing on Ronon, this is enjoyable–although it features some very exclusive fight scenes…

Doppelganger–4 of 10–Sheppard touches a crystalline object on an alien planet and soon appears in everyone’s nightmares. The concept slow this episode is interesting; but throughout it, I was laughing! Unintentionally, it becomes more of a dusky comedy instead of horrific and inspiring. Something about Sheppard being the villain in each and every nightmare is actually quite comic.

Travelers–3 of 10–Sheppard is captured by a exclusive ship and tries to rush while dealing with the ship’s stereotypically fine commander. This episode might actually outdo season 2’s `Grace Under Pressure’ in terms of being annoying. Larrin, the commander, is anything but military, even though she lives on her tattered ship; her hair is long and flowing, she wears tight dismal leather, and she saunters through the corridors like a fashion model. When she gets what she wants, her attitude is predictably smug–when she doesn’t pick up what she wants, she becomes pugnacious and petulant, at one point stomping her foot and hollering like a twelve-year-old. All in all, this is useless.

Tabula Rasa–9 of 10–In an amazingly noble and fascinating episode, Rodney finds himself tied to his desk, with almost total memory loss, and unusual instructions from a recording of himself. The explanation of the memory loss is logical and understandable; the adventures ensuing are intriguing and mysterious; the flashbacks to hours earlier are nice and enlightening; and it all serves to build an episode I heartily enjoyed!

Missing–6 of 10–Teyla and Keller, traveling to employ a day at the unusual Athosian settlement, acquire that the people are missing; they encounter the nefarious Bola Kai tribesmen wandering the planet and must mask for dismay of remove and death. In this episode, Keller at last shows her mettle–after whimpering and moaning for most of the time, she finds her inner courage and faces a uncertain enemy. The largest quandary with the episode, though, is that in all other season 3 and 4 episodes, I saw no mention of the Athosians being relocated to another planet. I have no notion when they got there!

The Seer–8 of 10–Still searching for the Athosians, Teyla seeks out a celebrated seer–the leader of a group of people on another planet–and finds that he knows worthy about Atlantis’ future. Although the seer himself doesn’t have grand to do, his visions predict quite a bit of danger for Atlantis; meanwhile, the team finds themselves inextricably linked with the Wraith in order to fight the Replicators. With the amount of adventures involved–and the very diminutive amount of mistakes made–this episode is very estimable.

Miller’s Crossing–5 of 10–Rodney’s sister Jeannie is kidnapped and, in searching for her, Rodney stumbles into a trap. This episode gives Rodney and Jeannie a chance to argue and sulk, which they are both quite safe at. Objective as in season 3’s `McKay and Mrs. Miller’, the premise itself is not very sound; the decisions that Rodney, Jeannie, and even their kidnapper create are foolish; as a plus, Jeannie decides to call Rodney by his precise name, Meredith, through the entire episode–even though he has already told her that he goes by the name of Rodney. Like before, this is rather worthless.

This Mortal Coil–9 of 10–After a outlandish drone from an unknown source crashes into the city, the denizens of Atlantis slowly initiate to realize that there’s something fresh going on. At the beginning, this episode is a game of `what’s gross with this recount? ‘ Once the truth is finally known–shocking not only the team, but myself as well–the team must work to avert anxiety and provide succor…but those who need aid are the most unlikely of people!

Be All My Sins Remember’d–7 of 10–Since the Replicators are attacking more and more planets, the team decides to decide things once and for all. Larrin, clichéd commander of the Traveler warship, gets an appearance; when Sheppard comes to her–virtually groveling for her succor instead of candidly asking for it–she decides to tie him to a chair (apparently a running gag) . What’s nice is that Col. Ellis, commander of the Apollo, finally manages to give Rodney a share of his mind before they all go off to fight the Replicators. In the raze, though a unusual and repugnant enemy is revealed to us in the audience, although the team knows nothing of them.

Spoils of War–7 of 10–The team, led by a signal from Todd’s subspace tracking way, stumbles on a top secret Wraith outpost, where they will bag many threats. Teyla finally gets a chance to attend out, with as mighty courage as ever, while Sheppard, Rodney, and Ronon eye the facility. A Wraith queen is spotlighted and gets to allege and spit in the usual over-the-top manner. Although this episode is contrived in spots, it composed is somewhat decent.

Quarantine–6 of 10–After the city mistakenly quarantines itself, many of the main characters rep themselves trapped together, giving them a chance to learn more about each other. We fetch that Dr. Zelenka raises pigeons; Dr. Keller graduated from college at age 15; and other assorted itsy-bitsy tidbits. Rodney is of course featured prominently in this episode, as he is in almost all of them. The extremely profitable allotment about this episode is that Dr. Zelenka finally gets a chance to do something genuine for the entire city. Otherwise, it’s the usual, mediocre at best.

Harmony–4 of 10–Sheppard and Rodney agree to shepherd a young princess on a rite of passage; in a reverse of Star Trek: The Next Generation’s `The Dauphin’, the girl–who bears the Earth name Harmony–develops a crush on Sheppard. This results in her acting somewhat like The Lord of the Rings’ Gollum, pretending to weep in Sheppard’s arms while smirking at Rodney instead. She is the classic spoiled-brat child, not caring whether Sheppard or Rodney survive their mission, and explaining her actions with the words “I’m the queen!” Throughout most of the episode, I could study all the major events coming easily. This is a light, very faintly comedic episode that is worth seeing only once.

Outcast–6 of 10–Sheppard’s father dies and he comes home to Earth for the funeral, but then finds himself in grand deeper danger than he expected. His polished brother wears a appreciate suit and has perfectly coiffed hair; his ex-wife, even with her nightclub-style outfit, works implausibly for the Department of Homeland Security; strangely, Sheppard finds himself at a complete loss for words every time he encounters either of them. Otherwise, the main storyline–featuring Replicators, as well as an unexpected appearance by a aged supporting character from season 1–is decent at the very least. Of course, there are some myth points that I can sight coming…but then again, that’s factual for almost all the episodes.

Trio–8 of 10–Carter, Rodney, and Keller are trapped in a mature Genii mine that is racked by tremors. Thankfully, Rodney doesn’t score to indicate worthy of his very annoying tendencies in this episode, although contributing an concept on how to escape; Carter and Keller also do their separate parts, trying to come by out before the tremors extinguish the mine. While this is the standard `a jam arises, and most attempts to solve it fail miserably’ episode, it manages to be sharp because of the interaction between the three characters. All three of them explain themselves by map of courageous actions.

Midway–10 of 10–With Ronon about to be evaluated by the IOA, Carter decides that Teal’c could relate the Satedan worthy. However, when times grow tough, Ronon and Teal’c must work together to put Earth. This is by far the best episode of season 4, featuring a ample crossover and shocking problems. There is a large (and regrettably short) fight scene between Ronon and Teal’c, featuring Chuck the gate technician taking bets on who will catch. Even with the tribulations, the two warriors work well together; however, in the meantime, Sheppard and Rodney score themselves in equal disaster. I savor this episode not only because of Teal’c, but also because of the moving and plausible scrape. If only every Atlantis episode had the fabulous writing this one does!

The Kindred, Allotment 1–6 of 10–In a slightly involving decline from `Midway’, Teyla finds herself having visions of Kanaan, the father of her child, and feels that she must search at a definite village. In the meantime, a sudden plague is sweeping through the galaxy. Almost everything in this episode results in disaster; Teyla–while searching for her people–is captured, and Sheppard and the other team members collect that a familiar and annoying villain is slow the plague. Todd, the jolly Wraith, gives them petite encourage and asks for it in return, but in the ruin his information does them no great. The very last moment of the episode features a surprising return from a much-beloved character…

The Kindred, Share 2–7 of 10–While Teyla finds her people again, Sheppard and friends try to bag her with the encourage of the newly returned character (whose identity I will not assure) . That person has quite a few health problems, which lessen his/her ability to help; in the meantime, Teyla learns more about the experiments being performed on some of her people. In the destroy, information is gathered and the Athosians are rescued, but Teyla remains a prisoner. Even though the villain in this two-part episode now has the usual mad-scientist qualities, this episode is far from abominable. The waste is tragic as the returned character takes his/her leave from his/her friends. Not poor!

The Last Man–7 of 10–Sheppard comes through the gate and finds that he’s been sent 48,000 years in the future; naturally, Rodney–once Sheppard went missing–came up with a hologram of himself that is programmed to succor Sheppard in any scheme possible. Most of the episode is taken up by reminisces of events taking site after Sheppard vanished–there are many things that go noxious, such as Michael predictably trying to win over the galaxy. While Sheppard tries to net a method out of the future, the hologram of older Rodney tells him stories of Ronon, Carter, Teyla, Keller and Rodney himself too. This episode is splendid because of its similarities to the Star Trek: Voyager series finale, but unfortunately the ending is rushed.

It is a estimable inquire of for all of us to think in the course of our daily lives. In this movie, four people die prematurely in a bus accident - OK, four people plus the bus driver whose mind was preoccupied with sex and instead of watching where he was driving, he swerved off the bridge. All of these four people had some unfinished business, so they remain earthbound. They procure themselves attached to a body of a kid and stick around until he’s all grown up. Not brilliant at first what to do, or the reason for them being earthbound, they are attempting to be of abet to the kid, but seeing that they are causing him more problems than aid, they halt interfering with his life and mind their beget business, serene wondering why are they stuck.

Eventually, it is revealed to them that they were level-headed earthbound so that they could choose one thing that would’ve made a incompatibility in their lives. Now, the challenge begins, because it is not objective a matter of doing the thing, but about overcoming inner obstacle, and having guts to follow one’s heart. After all, that is what life is about, that is what every day is about - having the courage to follow one’s heart, having the courage to listen to one’s soul - and in this movie it is a team-spirit of one individual helping another to do that one thing that would’ve given meaning to his life, that would have left him enriched and empowered in some scheme, that would’ve justified the reason he had the body in the first set. One may here also developed a original appreciation for one’s body and one’s life on earth because there are some things that unbiased can’t be done without it.

This is one of those concept provoking movies. Everyone faces a crossroads in his or her lives that is a turning point. Four people at those crossroads die prematurely before they are able to obtain a decision, and are fated to toddle the earth until they determine unfinished business. Their only human contact to figure everything out is Robert Downey Jr. The entire cast was actually very friendly, and well chosen - Kyra Sedgwick, Charles Grodin, Alfre Woodard, and Tom Sizemore give emotional heartwarming performances.

Here’s a movie for dog lovers, the elderly, children of divorce, FOBs (Friends of Birds), mature Boy Scouts, people yearning for adventure, and anyone who has ever loved… and lost. Up is for everyone. It made me laugh out loud, and it made me bellow.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Up! Click Here

I opinion it would be tough for Up to match the emotional power of Wall-E. The two Pixar films are similar in their lack of dialogue in the first act, which helps deepen the emotional impact. Up begins with Carl, a unnerved young boy star-struck by a eminent explorer; and kookie Ellie, who has a similar obsession. The two kids become fleet friends, and issue to one day proceed to Venezuela’s Paradise Falls. After getting married, they hold their dream home and fix it up, hoping to possess it with children. Carl and Ellie’s life together from childhood through primitive age is depicted, silently, with delicacy and subtlety. The first 15 minutes is like a celebration of a blissful marriage, and you truly feel Carl’s injure when he is left alone. He sits slumped in his chair, talking to the house as if it is the missing Ellie.

When developers stop in on Carl’s beloved home, he decides to fulfill his promise to Ellie and depart to Paradise Falls. A venerable balloon vendor, Carl lifts his home with hundreds of lustrous balloons. Stowing away on the porch is Russell, a full, courageous kid trying to derive a scouting badge.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Up! Click Here

After landing in Paradise Falls, the old-fashioned man and the small boy are joined by a golden retriever named Dug who can talk with his collar, and a astronomical rare bird that bonds with Russell (he names her “Kevin”) . Dug is priceless: spot-on for every dog that ever lived, including an obsession with squirrels. Through a series of conclude calls and adventures, the quartet vanquishes a villain, saving the day. And Russell earns his scouting badge.

In the process, Carl learns to let go of his murky mourning for Ellie, and live life again. When this happens, a truly magical thing happens. Before, Carl’s craggy face is gray and monochromatic. At the moment of his transformation, Carl’s face is awash in color, and he is surrounded by delicate hues. It reminded me of The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy steps out of her gray world and into a candy-colored Munchkinland. Carl, too, enters a whole recent world.

Up is a deeply emotional film, corpulent of truth. It’s the year’s best film. Secure another triumph for Pixar.

Someday, Pixar is going to do it — they’re going to earn an emotionally uninspiring, lackluster provocative movie. But in the meantime, they’re serene putting out palatable captivating movies like “Up,” which defies the usual kid-movie conventions by starring a crotchety feeble man. It’s a charming, fun miniature adventure myth with flying dogs and balloon-powered houses, but underlying it is a bittersweet small legend about loss and admire.

As a child, the shrinking Carl Fredricksen bonded with the oddball Ellie over their shared worship of adventure, the explorer Charles Muntz, and Paradise Falls. They later married, fade into their “clubhouse” together, and lived a long, sadly childless life together. When Ellie died, she had never fulfilled her dream of going to Paradise Falls.

Now crotchety, alone and harassed by a steady estate developer, Carl (Ed Asner) is finally ordered to a retirement home. But he isn’t going quietly — instead he attaches thousands of balloons to his house and floats it away toward South America. But he accidentally takes an interested, naive Wilderness Explorer (a thinly-veiled Boy Scout) named Russell (Jordan Nagai) along for the lumber. Abominable kid was unbiased trying to fetch an “assisting the elderly” badge.

And the jungle slouch to Paradise Falls turns out to have some surprising obstacles: a spacious emulike bird that Russell names Kevin, a talking dog named Dug (”I am jumping on you, bird!”), and a mysterious weak man who lives deep in the heart of the jungle. Turns out the obsolete guy is very familiar to Carl — and to assume Kevin, he’s willing to sacrifice Carl and Russell.

Industry experts were babbling about how “Up” wouldn’t be as celebrated as the previous Pixar movies, because the protagonist is basically a crusty ancient coot. Well, shows what they know. It ended up becoming one of those classic movies that somehow appeals to all ages — while the humor and action appeal to children, adults can bask in Carl’s appreciate for his lost wife, and his insensible realization that he’s clinging to the past.

In fact, the first ten minutes are some of the most heart-tugging, quietly bittersweet scenes I’ve seen in a long time. Without a word, they prove all the ups and downs of a realistic marriage — joys, sorrows (Ellie’s inability to have children), growing passe together, and finally loss.

But it’s not a depressing movie by any stretch — in fact, it’s like a childhood fantasy arrive to life, complete with a floating house suspended on hundreds of balloons, and biplanes piloted by a talking dog army.. Plenty of astronomical dialogue (”Do you want to play a game? It’s called Spy Who Can Go the Longest Without Saying Anything.” “Wintry! My mom loves that game!”) and an action-packed climax in an customary airship.

Ed Asner is absolutely perfect as ubergrouch Carl — crotchety, grumpy, and certain to fulfill his wife’s lifelong dream, but gradually realizing he’s clinging to the past. Nagai is equally perfect as Carl’s polar opposite: a naive, chattery Scout who is definite to reunite Kevin with her baby chicks. And the utterly adorable Dug and the other dogs deserve special eye. These creatures are utterly hilarious — they talk (”I hid under your porch because I treasure you”) and act the method dogs would if they talked. Three words: cone of shame.

The two-disc edition is going to have some very nice extras, but once again people with regular-def DVDs are going to gain shafted because the Blu-ray edition will have a bunch of curious stuff. Grr. As for this one, there’s a digital copy, the director’s audio commentary, kinda-alternate-ending “The Many Endings of Muntz,” and the documentary “Adventure Is Out There” about the research for this movie.

There are also a pair of adorable entertaining shorts. “Partly Cloudy” has a much-abused stork having to enlighten potentially deplorable baby creatures from a kind but clueless cloud. And “Dug’s Special Mission” is a sort of backstory for the adorable Dug, explaining what the heck he was doing before he met up with Carl and Russell.

“Up” continues Pixar’s running tally of gloriously attractive, emotionally layered movies that the entire family can relish. With that, I have only one more thing to say… SQUIRREL!

This movie is reminiscent of classic comedies of the 60’s. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have extraordinary chemistry, but so many comical moments you will laugh out loud. Goldie learning how to be a homemaker is priceless, and she does the physical comedy so well. This movie flows continuously from beginning to waste. It does not chase in any piece. It is a keeper, and a friendly addition to any collection.

No matter how many times I witness this movie (and hold me, I’ve watched it many, many, many times) it’s always scrumptious. Goldie Hawn stars as Joanna Stayton, an incrediblly rich, incredibly bored and incredibly bitchy woman with nothing left to do while her yacht is docked at a little coastal Oregon town called Elk’s Cove but to hire a carpenter named Dean Proffitt (Kurt Russell, gotta treasure him) to remodel her closet. But when the job isn’t done to her satisfaction, he winds up overboard along with all his tools. He vows to glean revenge on her and the opportunity presents itself when Joanne falls overboard in the middle of the night and is later discovered by a crew of Portuguese men on a garbage barge. But Joanna has amnesia and can’t remember who she is. And her husband Grant is all to blissful to pretend he doesn’t know her and leave her in the hospital. But when Dean sees the “amnesia lady” on the news, he recognizes Joanna and hatches a opinion to accept revenge and rep the money she owes him. But neither one expects to topple in cherish with the other. Overboard is a fun and laughable movie that also teaches us the lesson that money doesn’t choose us complete happiness. It can for you though if you consume Overboard because it’s worth watching hundreds of times over. I admire it! Savor!

And the jungle crawl to Paradise Falls turns out to have some surprising obstacles: a stout emulike bird that Russell names Kevin, a talking dog named Dug (”I am jumping on you, bird!”), and a mysterious customary man who lives deep in the heart of the jungle. Turns out the ragged guy is very familiar to Carl — and to buy Kevin, he’s willing to sacrifice Carl and Russell.

Industry experts were babbling about how “Up” wouldn’t be as celebrated as the previous Pixar movies, because the protagonist is basically a crusty veteran coot. Well, shows what they know. It ended up becoming one of those classic movies that somehow appeals to all ages — while the humor and action appeal to children, adults can indulge in Carl’s esteem for his lost wife, and his tiring, realization that he’s clinging to the past.

In fact, the first ten minutes are some of the most heart-tugging, quietly bittersweet scenes I’ve seen in a long time. Without a word, they note all the ups and downs of a realistic marriage — joys, sorrows (Ellie’s inability to have children), growing primitive together, and finally loss.

But it’s not a depressing movie by any stretch — in fact, it’s like a childhood fantasy near to life, complete with a floating house suspended on hundreds of balloons, and biplanes piloted by a talking dog army.. Plenty of gigantic dialogue (”Do you want to play a game? It’s called Observe Who Can Go the Longest Without Saying Anything.” “Cold!

And the utterly adorable Dug and the other dogs deserve special behold. These creatures are utterly hilarious — they talk (”I hid under your porch because I fancy you”) and act the device dogs would if they talked. Three words: cone of shame.

The two-disc edition is going to have some very nice extras, but once again people with regular-def DVDs are going to net shafted because the Blu-ray edition will have a bunch of odd stuff. Grr. As for this one, there’s a digital copy, the director’s audio commentary, kinda-alternate-ending “The Many Endings of Muntz,” and the documentary “Adventure Is Out There” about the research for this movie.

There are also a pair of adorable enchanting shorts. “Partly Cloudy” has a much-abused stork having to explain potentially substandard baby creatures from a kind but clueless cloud. And “Dug’s Special Mission” is a sort of backstory for the adorable Dug, explaining what the heck he was doing before he met up with Carl and Russell.

“Up” continues Pixar’s running tally of gloriously titillating, emotionally layered movies that the entire family can delight in. With that, I have only one more thing to say… SQUIRREL!

At the core of what looks on the surface to be a standard summer buddy movie is an titillating premise: What does become of the overly sensitized male when confronted with the reality that all his closest friends are female and that he is at a complete loss to collect any groomsmen, in particular, a best man, for his wedding? It’s not an earth-shattering scrape to address, yet the dwelling gives rise to a lot of funny questions about what constitutes masculine behavior in our supposedly evolved society. Fortunately, director/co-writer John Hamburg (Along Came Polly) has fashioned a 2009 comedy (with co-writer Larry Levin) pudgy of shrewd observations and hilarious gags that transcend formula and elevate the record into something original and genuinely likeable.

When sweet-natured L.A. valid estate broker Peter Klaven decides to marry Zooey, his girlfriend of eight months, it dawns on both of them that he has no end male friends. Whispers about his manhood and her terror of him being too clingy as a husband lead Peter to station up a series of disastrous man-dates, one being the predictable erroneous happy date. However, it’s at an inaugurate house at Lou Ferrigno’s manse that he meets his personality opposite - Sydney Fife, a slovenly, blunt albeit socially observant slacker. As it turns out, their differences complement one another in a scheme that makes them best buddies almost from the get-go - that and a favorite obsession for the 1970’s power band Accelerate. Naturally, Zooey starts to resent Sydney’s burgeoning role in Peter’s life - and things find complicated before the inevitable conclusion.

Two of Judd Apatow’s familiar net company star. Finally at the center of a major movie, Paul Rudd is ideally cast as Peter since the role takes advantage of how he combines his boyish charm and unpredictable nebbishness into a memorable character. In fact, he manages to give Peter’s awkward attempts to overcome his social apprehension a obvious emotional resonance. We feel every painful step he takes in replicating Sydney’s free spirit, and it becomes easy to root for his success. Grand better cast here than as the self-conscious lead in last year’s Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Jason Segel offers his doughy likeability to a role that suits his casual, lumbering personality, even when he exposes an intimate secret between Peter and Zooey in a wedding party dinner toast.

If the interplay between Rudd and Segel feels familiar from Apatow comedies like The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up, it is a coincidence that Hamburg takes tubby advantage of to preserve the movie comically appealing. Rashida Jones brings a raspy appeal to Zooey, although she is kept mostly at the sidelines. Also underused are Jaime Pressly as Zooey’s tart-tongued friend Denise and as Peter’s parents, J.K. Simmons (playing the same wiseass father he played in Juno) and especially Jane Curtin. Jon Favreau has a thankless role as Denise’s alpha-male jerk of a husband, while Andy Samberg makes a most unconvincing delighted as Peter’s sleep-around, personal trainer brother. There are plenty of laughs throughout its slightly long 105-minute running time, but what may surprise you is the number of insightful moments that this affectionate, satirical comedy provides.

The United States, in general, is quite a homophobic country. Men are expected to have platonic feelings of fancy only for immediate family members, such as parents, grandparents, siblings and their have offspring. Sharing one’s nonsexual feelings of treasure outside this minute world is basically considered taboo. In other cultures this is certainly not the case, something I had the first-rate fortune to experience first hand!

I Appreciate You, Man does a worthy job of comparing and contrasting heterosexual women’s emotionally rich, same-sex friendships with heterosexual men’s typically barren, same-sex friendships. It exposes the hypocrisy that it’s okay for women to hug and be emotionally finish and talk in graphic details about their sex lives amongst themselves, but NOT for a man to do the same proper thing!

What a refreshing and insightful film! This bright record also compares male homosexual and heterosexual same-sex relationships and on the surface, at least, they are indistinguishable! This might be news to some people - but all well-adjusted human beings have a yearning for emotionally rewarding relationships!

And, one person can not fulfill ALL your emotional needs! It’s really that simple!

Thank you Hollywood for taking such a risk in making such a profound film with a immense sense of humor! It shows you hold a definite segment of the American public is dilapidated enough to want to peep the meaning of platonic like between men!

I was an adult when Inspector Gadget: The Recent Series first appeared on the air and I loved the present from the launch! I am autistic, I loved dead frail challenging TV stuff long after most older folk have moved on. I impartial liked Gadget because, he was different and trying to do qualified for others in the world despite it all. I like anyone who is different struggling to meet the life’s challenges as they arrive with a smile and an indomitable spirit hence Gadget proved to be my kind of people :) .

Gadget was also fun because, he was a technical person but kind of scatter brained like me. Gadget was misunderstood by most people and had only a few conclude but noble friends making him very easy for me to like. Gadget had a noble heart always filled with like and hope despite it all and that means something awesome in my book too. Maybe caring about things on TV is an autistic thing if so I do like such nice gentle themed television shows an aweful lot! For me capable characters on TV shows are like grand friends you visit with for a time. I am not proper at the complexity of right social skills so I stare lots of TV survey the characters to study what makes them salubrious.

Watching Inspector Gadget: The Recent Series is fun, because he brings help so many expedient memories that are not filled with mean inhumanity or confusion. Steal Inspector Gadget: The Novel Series and let him bring befriend some excellent memories for you or build some novel awesome memories for members of your family.

I was satisfied I got this DVD situation. It was a colossal improvement over the cheap Sterling/UAV Gadget DVDs “The Gadget Files” and “Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas.” The first 22 episodes are there, including the fresh pilot, with Gadget’s mustache! Like I did with the Apt DVDs, it’s time to give it my “Gadget Factors…”

PROS

The unique episodes are there, of course.

There is some wintry special features, such as the interview with the show’s creators and the fresh art gallery!

The pilot has its unusual dialogue (since reruns of this episode had badly-done original voiceovers explaining Gadget’s mustache was a erroneous.) Plus, the pilot episode has its unique opening and closing titles, featuring Gadget’s mustache throughout them!

CONS

There’s some noticable DVNR on some episodes.

And of course, like the other Gadget DVDs, there’s the following edits…

EDITS

The title of an episode is electronically added at the begin of most episodes during the beginning of the first scene. When these cartoons originally aired, including their Nickelodeon reruns, they had no episode titles! This probably wasn’t really needed.

The current DiC logo featuring Inspector Gadget dotting the “i” was prick. It was replaced with the “Astounding World of DiC” logo on most episodes, though a couple of episodes have the famed 1990s “Kid in Bed” DiC logo tacked onto it. This was quite unneccesary. However, the unusual late-70s/early-80s LBS logo is intact on all episodes, which you might remember if you saw this reveal on Nickelodeon attend in the 90s.

I have been waiting for quite some time ever since I got my “Gadget Files” DVD for a company to release a box situation of Gadget episodes, and it’s finally happened!

All in all, I wholeheartedly recommend it to those who are astronomical fans of the expose, or those who are dying to sight this classic cartoon again!

This film is a classic and viscerally impartial portrayal of human conflict and personal growth. It clearly depicts working class young adults who sought to smash away from past barriers and limitations and obtain better lives for themselves. It is a coming of age legend, where a chubby spectrum of feelings are explored as young adults learn about fulfilling their potential, building value systems and attempting to fulfill personal desires with honesty and integrity on many levels. Two hot young stars were cast in the leading roles: Richard Gere who was riding high on his novel success in “American Gigolo” and Debra Winger who shined in her role in “Urban Cowboy”. With stars of this caliber, it surprised me to learn (in the Special Features part) that doubts existed about the film’s acceptance by theater audiences. In fact, the script had made the rounds of different studios for eight years, with no one audacious to design the film which was essentially about training Naval pilots. The anxiety was it was too halt to the ruin of the Viet Nam War and would be rejected by the public as being about war. Luckily, the film was interpreted very differently by the viewing audience who saw it in a obvious light where personal survival, transformation and the expression of cherish were the key elements successfully played out on film.

Richard Gere stars as Zack Mayo, a hardened, slightly rebellious loner who locked up his feelings and dared not acquire emotionally finish to people. He had been wound as a youth when his mother committed suicide and he went to live with his dad, who was a selfish womanizer and alcoholic. When Zack announced his acceptance into Naval candidacy school to become a pilot, his father did not give him accolades or serve. This was nothing novel and it did not matter to Zack who pursued his dream with determination and courage. At the Port Townsend Naval Infamous, Zack learned discipline and made current friends. The camaraderie of being candidates and curious themselves to acheive their goals awakened something novel within him which totally transformed him. Zack excelled in physical survival skills and martial arts training. It was Gunnery Sergeant Foley’s job to detect weakness of character and courage, to eliminate candidates who would not survive under the harsh conditions of war. Foley knew of Zack’s streetwise rebellious tendencies and rode him hard. Foley and Zack clashed periodically and one climactic scene especially stood out … where Foley meted out severe discipline and punishment to secure Zack to ask for a “D.O.R” lag (descend out on inquire of) . Zack endured the punishment and after a particularly difficult session of physical endurance tests, Zack *finally* gut wrenchingly admitted, “I got nowhere else to go” …

Besides the definite tale about a group of young adults who under go rigorous training to become Naval pilots, several other stories arise and are fully developed within the place which makes this film so highly keen. Early on, Sgt Foley warned the candidates that young ladies who work in local factories, arrive from across the Puget Sound, to meet Naval candidates, with one goal in mind: to marry a Navy pilot. They will stoop to any means to secure their man. Zack and his friend Sid are dressed to demolish in their white uniforms during a social dance where they connect with two charming and attractive factory workers of similar age to themselves. Paula a raven-haired beauty, played by Deborah Winger is paired with Zack, while Lynette, an magnificent blond is paired with Sid. The attraction between the paired off guys and ladies is mutual and in a short time, they often meet for consensual physical liasons, even going to a local motel when the candidates are on leave. While everyone agrees it is with “no strings attached”, the ladies have secret agendas with hopes of marriage. Zack attempts to play the gentleman, by going to meet Paula’s parents and have dinner at their home. However, he mild holds wait on and makes no promises to Paula. Paula plays it wintry, claiming to ask nothing but she *does* manage to melt his chilly exterior when their physical relationship becomes more steamy and personal. The guys discuss their plans to atomize off the liasons after graduation. As the kill of their training is reach, the two candidates frosty their relationships with the two ladies. Lynette pulls a trick to salvage Sid, that backfires in ways totally unimaginable. She refuses Sid’s engagement ring which results in one of the saddest, most gut-wrenching, heart-breaking and realistic scenes ever depicted on film. This earth-shattering event shakes Zack up and makes him realize what is precise and distinguished in his life … While the ending may arguably be interpreted by some as corny and hokey, in attain, it is very satisfying and provides an just and fulfilling conclusion to the film. Erika Borsos [pepper flower]

Initially, my first impression of this movie was this movie was going to be expressionless. Then, after the first 20 minutes, my mind went into another direction. I found this movie to be keen, and I knew there had to be some meaning to the movie. And indeed there was!

Zack Mayo, (Richard Gere) is a college graduate who pursues a chance to become a naval officer by entering the Officer Candidate Training School. In 14 solid weeks, Zack progresses and learns the ability of leadership, friendship, and discipline, through his tough drill instructor, (Louis Gossett Jr, in his Oscar-winning performance), and his friends.

Mood and tone are expressed intelligently through the emotions of adventure, torture, romance, and entertainment. My approved aspect of this movie is Jack Nitzsche’s unforgettable scoring. The mood and tone ties in together as the music plays, and makes the audiences feel spontaneous of what they are watching (especially with the care for themes) .

This movie, starring Richard Gere, Debra Winger, David Keith, Lisa Blount, Louis Gossett Jr., Robert Loggia, and Lisa Eilbacher, was the winner recipient of 2 Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actor: LOUIS GOSSETT JR., and Best Novel Song: “UP WHERE WE BELONG.” Also nominated for 4 additional Academy Awards, including Best Actress: DEBRA WINGER, Best Modern Screenplay: DOUGLAS DAY STEWART, Best Recent Score: JACK NITZSCHE, Best Film editing, and nominated for a total of 8 Golden Globes, this movie unmarks the boundary between appreciate and adventure.

Richard Gere, even though nominated for a Golden Globe, should of been nominated for an Oscar. His outstanding performance brought the lawful nature of what it’s like to be his character. This was the performance of his entire career!

Yes, FARGO won lots of awards, and certain, RAISING ARIZONA isuproariously amusing, but do no mistake: MILLER’S CROSSING is thequintessential Coen brothers film. In point of fact, it’s flawless, a jewel you can turn over and around in your hands again and again, seeing a unusual facet every time, each one striking and tranquil and perfect.

The script is awash with Prohibition-era jargon both historically grounded and whimsically invented, a symphony of phrases and exchanges that linger and echo long after being heard. (It isn’t unique after a viewing to waddle around asking friends, “What’s the rumpus? “, or to complain about being given “the high hat” upon being snubbed.)

The performances, as well, are individually and collectively irresistable. I defy you, in fact, to collect a single film in which _any_ of the major players has ever been better. There’s not a erroneous or miscast price in the whole of the dramatis personae. There’s Gabriel Byrne as the inscrutable, Machiavellian Tom Reagan, a trusted advisor to the city’s Irish mob lord who falls out of favor and “defects” to the Italian camp to do his fill skin…or does he? Albert Finney plays Leo, the aforementioned Irish power broker whose fists of iron, vicious survival instinct, and all-too-vulnerable heart congeal into a simply distinguished, unforgettable character. John Turturro is equal parts pathetic outcast and conniving opportunist as Bernie Birnbaum, the unscrupulous, vampirically pale bookmaker whose shady maneuvers space the whole status into motion. Marcia Ecstatic Harden exudes fierce intelligence and buckets of carefully-aimed sex appeal as Bernie’s sister Verna, whose unflagging drive to protect her brother — even from himself — almost excuse her hooked machinations. J.E. Freeman drips harmful and impending violence all over the mask as smarter-than-you-want-him-to-be enforcer Eddie Dane. Jon Polito, as hot-tempered Italian ringleader Johnny Caspar, may be the only character at hand to actually feel sorry for, as his oddly consistent ethical code makes it a certain bet he doesn’t stand a chance in his environment.

There’s more to say about the acting, of course, but I’ll cessation there rather than pour accolades onto the entire cast. And when I say “entire,” I’m not exaggerating: every person who comes into frame, from the leads to the smaller parts to the people with one line or none at all, fit together and play off of each other as though they’d been born to do nothing else in their entire lives. The whole of it actually makes it difficult not to scrutinize acting and casting problems in other films.

I’m running out of room here, so I can only nod to some of the other perfect elements of production. Barry Sonnenfeld’s dead-on photography is measured and seamless where appropriate, frenetic where important. Status gain and costuming earn for such an extraordinary illusion that were this not a color film, you might actually forget that it was released 9, not 69 years ago. And even the sound — from the music (diegetic and otherwise) to the crystal-clear sound effects that pierce the visual and diagram you in by the ears, like they’re supposed to — is a _presence_ in its absorb upright throughout the film. I mean, when was the last time ice cubes dropping into an feeble glass or the wringing out of an alcohol-soaked rag into a tinny dish felt truly woven into the designed finish of a scene in a movie?

What continues to amaze me about MILLER’S CROSSING is that no matter how many times I notice it, regardless of how hard I watch, I _can’t come by anything defective with it_. That’s an extremely rare spot in my experience. It’s what we all want out of a movie, and almost never accumulate. MILLER’S CROSSING delivers exactly that feeling, and when Tom Reagan leans against that tree and adjusts that hat in the haunting final shot, he knows it objective as surely as we do. He doesn’t seem to feel especially blissful about it, but that’s okay. _You_ will.

Most people will let the titles “GOODFELLAS”, “THE GODFATHER (I & II) “, “ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA” and “THE UNTOUCHABLES” roll off their tongues when asked what their popular movie is in the “mob” genre. Although seldom mentioned, “MILLER’S CROSSING” must acquire its rightful region alongside the above as one of the definitive treatments of gangster dynamics in American Cinema. I like to call it “The Thinking Man’s Mob Movie” because it’s a film that requires one to really focus on the action and dialog and not merely sit succor in a lounger without attention span and wait for demolish. These characters are multi-faceted, the place is complex and the payoff for the viewer is delivered through outstanding cinematography (perhaps the Coen’s best!) and skillful pacing. Coupling their usual stable of actors (Turturro, Buscemi, Polito) with primitive thespo Albert Finney, the exquisitely laconic Gabriel Byrne, and femme-semi-fatale Marcia Joyful Harden, the Coen Brothers have assembled a truly broad ensemble cast that transcends the brutality and authenticity of the era. Determined, there’s spacious demolish! In the wonderful gangster pictures, violence is actually a character unto itself, always lurking in the background until called upon to manufacture a point. In “MILLER’S CROSSING”, the Coen Brothers seem to downplay the precise mechanical violence by isolating the factors and sequences that are responsible for it. Betrayal and revenge are considerable themes in this film. The crisp writing makes the conversation between characters appear effortless and uncontrived. There’s a determined casuality in the dialog that belies the Coen’s alarmingly legal renderings of gangland execution. Finally, the enjoyment one derives from viewing “MILLER’S CROSSING” is not related to how considerable he/she understands the action or knows about the mob lifestyle, but to the appreciation of the filmmaker’s art in communicating the brutality and fraternity of these individuals with extraordinary beauty and precision.
